THESE HEAT SAVINGS TIPS
HEAT USA offers MTA members discounts of up to $250 a year on
home heating oil and heating system service. Here are a few tips on
how to save money while keeping warm this winter.
• Get a heating system tune-up — it will ensure you get the
maximum performance out of every drop of heating oil burned.
• Open shades and drapes when the sun is shining to help
warm your home.
• Turn down the thermostat at night and when you are away; even
slightly lowering your thermostat during the day might save you
up to 2 percent on your heating bill.
• Insulate pipes to guard against heat loss and to prevent them
• Stop heat loss by eliminating any gaps between your door and threshold by using a seal that can be attached to the bottom of the door.
• Talk to your heating fuel supplier about installing a programmable
thermostat, which will allow you to save when you’re not at home.
At MTA Benefits, we speak frequently with
members who are not satisfied with their
dental coverage. Whether the issue involves
a high deductible, too few dentists in the
network or poor payment of claims, there
are many factors to consider when evaluating
your options. Each member’s needs are
different. Some require no services besides
cleanings; others face frequent dental work.
No matter what your situation, it’s likely
that MetLife’s dental coverage will meet
MetLife has two separate plans — one for
active members and one for retired members.
MetLife’s network includes more than 3,800
dental offices in Massachusetts alone — and
135,000 nationwide. With both plans, you
can visit any licensed dentist, whether in or
out of network. If you’ve had the same dentist
for years you needn’t switch, but bear in
mind that you’ll experience the greatest
savings with in-network providers. It’s easy
to see if your dentist is in the network by
What does a network of providers offer, other
than selection? With MetLife, it’s an average
savings of 35 percent on the customary dental
costs in your area. This discount can really
keep your costs down.
It’s also easy to figure out which plan is best
for you. MetLife offers three plans for active
members based on the need for services: core
(basic), core plus (intermediate) and premium
(extensive). For retired members, the selection
includes two plans also ranked by services
covered — low or high. Do you pay for
cleanings? With MetLife plans, your cleaning
is 100 percent covered, both in and out
Have you ever been surprised at your
out-of-pocket cost after you’ve had a
procedure? No one needs that kind of
shock. MetLife will provide a pre-treatment
estimate for any recommended procedure
that exceeds $300. This makes it easier
to determine the best course of action for
you and can help you avoid an unpleasant
Another great feature of the MetLife plans
is vision coverage. There is no extra charge
for vision benefits, which can save you as
much as $144 per year.
If you’re paying the full cost of your dental
coverage and aren’t satisfied, take some time
to review MetLife’s dental plans for MTA
members. You can enroll at any time. In
general, your application must be received
by MetLife by the 15th of the month in order
to be processed in time for coverage on the
first of the following month. View coverage
