BOARD OF DIRECTORS DISTRICT 36C
BOARD OF DIRECTORS DISTRICT 13F
BOARD OF DIRECTORS STATEWIDE RETIRED
Biographical statements of candidates for Board of Directors
As MTA members our job is to provide, promote and protect quality public
education. Finding balance with fight and compromise is critical in this
mission. I look forward to engaging in dialogue, even when difficult, to help
ensure positive change and growth for students, teachers and the profession.
I have always looked to labor’s past to help frame labor’s future. Though we
face new challenges, our answer rests in what has always made us strong —
building bonds and sharing struggles with each other. I’d like to continue to
represent 13F to help preserve public schools for future generations.
We are the experts in our classrooms. Policies that harm teachers distort
learning for the students in front of them. Through our union we can uplift
our profession and end worker exploitation. As District 40E Director, I
will support organizing locally and statewide to reclaim our schools and
professional dignity.
I’m Renee Vieira and currently representing District 40E on the Board. I
have learned a lot and take my position seriously. I have striven to make
decisions that best serve the members of this district. I would be honored
and humbled to continue to do so for the next term.
I’m a fifth-grade teacher in Stoughton, local vice president and MTA
New Member Committee member. I have served the union as building
representative, delegate to Annual Meeting and NEA RA, negotiation team
member and local president. I welcome the opportunity to serve on the
Board. Thank you for your vote.
Austerity budgets. Charter schools. Micromanagement, data and tests.
Increasing workloads and decreasing job security. These are difficult times
for educators. As the 36C Board member, I will communicate with you and
continue to support efforts to grow our collective power so that we can act
together to reclaim public education.
Representing you as your Retired Director on the MTA Board, I have
worked to make COLA increases a legislative priority. Representing you on
the Massachusetts Teachers’ Retirement Board, I have worked to protect our
defined-benefit pensions. I ask for your vote to continue advocating on your
behalf. Thank you.
I am a newly retired activist: President of Lexington Education Association
eight years, teacher 40 years, past member MTA Board of Directors and
MTA Executive Committee for 11 years. I want to continue supporting
retirees and educators by serving as MTA Board Retired District Director.
I welcome your support.
As MTA President, I strongly advocated for members. I wish to continue on
the MTA Board as your representative, fighting for the rights and benefits of
retired members on important issues such as COLAs and health insurance.
Thank you for your past support. I would appreciate your vote once again.
Upon retirement I gave colleagues buttons: “Those who can, TEACH.
Those who cannot, pass laws about teaching.” Most wore them but some
were timid. We cannot be timid as we speak to needs of children. Teachers
must reclaim their profession and I wish to be a part of this effort!
