TOP FIVE REASONS TO CONSIDER THE
MTA Specified Critical Illness Plan
Did you know that every 26 seconds,
an American has a coronary event
such as a heart attack or stroke?1
Did you also know that the risk
of developing cancer during
your lifetime is nearly one in
two for men and one in three
for women? 2 Life can change in a
heartbeat — and you’re not always
going to be prepared for the financial toll of such unfortunate
events. The MTA Critical Illness Plan is designed to help
ease some of that financial burden. The plan can provide a
lump-sum payment upon the first occurrence or diagnosis of
heart attack, stroke, cancer, permanent paralysis or kidney
failure, or the need for a major organ transplant or coronary
artery bypass.
There are many reasons to consider the MTA Critical Illness Plan, but here are the top five.
1. If a family member has been diagnosed with cancer, you could be at increased risk.
2. The younger you are when you enroll, the lower the cost. Premiums don’t increase as you
grow older.
3. Coverage is available in a lump sum of $10,000 to $50,000.
4. The plan allows you to pay medical expenses that health insurance doesn’t cover:
e.g., deductibles, experimental treatments, prescription co-pays and transportation to
health facilities.
5. Your spouse and children are eligible for coverage.
Whatever your No. 1 reason may be, the MTA plan could make a big difference in your security
and recovery. You can’t predict whether you will ever suffer one of these illnesses or conditions,
but you can be prepared. The critical illness plan can help to reduce the financial burden that
accompanies a life-threatening illness. To find out more, call 888.646.1972, ext. 104.

For many travelers, the point of a safari is seeing the “big five”— lions, leopards,
buffalo, elephants and rhinoceroses. Many wildlife preserves are home to these
magnificent creatures, including Kruger National Park, which offers a variety
of safari trips in different price ranges. You can also select an exclusive private game
reserve such as Phinda Forest, where guests stay in stylish “Zulu Zen” suites
with glass walls that create an indoor-outdoor living space.
Pietermaritzburg is known for its British Colonial and
Victorian architecture. The most emotionally charged moment
for visitors may come at the old Pietermaritzburg Railway Station. It was here in 1893 that
Mohandas “Mahatma” Gandhi was ordered to leave the train because he was traveling
in a whites-only compartment. That humiliation helped him decide his destiny. Gandhi left
his law practice and became the leading champion for Indian rights in South Africa.
Within driving distance of Pietermaritzburg are famous battlefields: the site of the
Anglo-Boer War, which Winston Churchill covered as a newspaper correspondent, and
the Anglo-Zulu battlefield where the British experienced one of the worst losses in their
colonial history.
